MCK is pleased to be partnered with Butch Cappel of Cappel Canine is breeding and promoting the Western Shepherd Project.
The Western Shepherd is a modernization of the classic German Shepherd Dog. What makes it modern? Great question! Butch set out to create a line of working shepherd that had great hips, keen intellect, and the loyalty that made the GSD world famous.
To do this he outcrossed to several related breeds, most notably the Dutch Shepherd and Belgian Malinois. He then bred high quality working GSD’s back in to produce foundation stock that was more than the sum of it’s parts. Through selective breeding he has recaptured the essence of the working GSD with something a little extra – selectively breeding for a low shed dog.
That’s right this is a low shed shepherd!
We fully believe we have captured the best of each: the intelligence and demeanor of the GSD; the drive and work ethic of the Mal; and the loyalty and sensitivity of the Dutchie.
